Parent–Teacher Conference (PTC):

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: PTC continued this week with Junior and Middle School. Thank you to all parents who attended, and for being a part of our community.

 

CAREER COUNSELLING (Senior School)

8th and 9th grade students who are going to 9th and 10th grade by September are mandated to undergo career counselling to discuss their interests and inspiration to enable them gain knowledge and advice them on the proper subjects to select accordingly. This is a life defining activity where parents are invited to be a part of so that they are in on their child’s career choice

As a school, we want only the best of our students and we require our parent’s support to work in this regard. We thank all our parents for their active involvement in their child’s education.

PRESCHOOL & SENIOR SCHOOL: We kicked off Q4 with a very engaging one-on-one PTC over 3 days with our preschool parents and teachers, while our senior parents had access to subject teachers across all departments. Thank you to all parents who attended, and for being a part of our community.

ELEMENTARY

1ST GRADE – “Shoelace Tying Lesson!”

First Graders sat with their sneakers as they learned a very practical skill – tying their shoelaces! Thank you to our parents for stopping by and patiently teaching our children until they got the hang of it.

6TH GRADE – MUSON Preliminary Exams

Our results are in! CONGRATULATIONS to our 6th Graders for their excellent performance in the MUSON music theory preliminary exam last November.

We look forward to many more of our students taking the MUSON theory and practical exams this May, and hosting other music students all across Ibadan. ACA is the official MUSON testing center in Ibadan. Kindly register with us by April 27th, to sit for the May exams. See important registration information and other details below.

SENIOR SCHOOL: We had our Senior School Parents’ Meeting with ACA Admin, Graduating Class parents’ meeting, and our 10th–12th Grade Exam meeting with students, parents, and faculty. It was a very productive time with these smaller PTA group meetings and we look forward to more parent involvement at ACA.

PRE-KG Science: “Plants”

Our tiny seeds have grown! We were excited to see plants of different shapes and sizes.

ELEMENTARY

1ST GRADE SCIENCE – The Skeleton: After a lesson on how bones protect our organs by observing how banana peels and peanut shells protect the foods in them, 1st Graders learned about parts of a skeleton and their functions. It was a very practical lesson with a life-size skeleton in the biology lab, and they had fun with 9th Grade students’ models of the human brain.

SCHOOL SPIRIT WEEK

To raise the school spirit of students and unite everyone, the SBG organized this fun week of activities leaving the students excited to come to school. It was more fun than we imagined. Take a look!

CAREER DAY - Monday

The first day of the school spirit week was so much fun as students came in dressed in their beautiful career outfits. We had quite a number of students in the medical line, lawyers, pilots, artists, professors, and even Albert Einstein in the flesh. Take a look!

PAJAMA DAY - Tueday

Pyjamas day was fun with students coming in straight out of bed with their teddy bears and pillows. Watch the video to see how cute!

WACKY WEDNESDAY

WOW! It was wackier than we expected. Here are some of our favourites.

TWINS/TRIPLETS DAY - Thursday

This was the sweetest day as students came in matching outfits with friends, siblings and even members of staff. They came as twins, triplets and even quadruplets.

ANYTHING BUT A SCHOOL BAG - Friday

We thought this was going to be a tricky one, but trust our students to get super creative with what they brought their books with. It was delightful to see! Watch the video below and be sure to drop a comment !

FIELD TRIPS

11th and 12th Grade Geography & Art students visited Ado Awaye in Oyo state to conclude their learning experience on the natural environment and landscape.

1ST GRADE – MATH: It was an awesome Multiplication Workshop with parents, followed by a lesson on Division. And here’s more from our SCIENCE lessons: We moved back to class for our teeth experiment and completed our seasons project – clouds and winds, and the water cycle.

2nd Grade SCIENCE: After a lesson on The Eye, we learned about Healthy Tips for the Eyes and Skin with Nurse Joy, who explained ways we can take care of our bodies to prevent eye and skin diseases.

PRESCHOOL

NURSERY Social Studies: “Occupational Clothing” – Nursery students dressed up for a fun Social Studies lesson on occupational clothing. We had doctors and paramedics and surgeons, engineers and construction workers, lawyers, beauticians, a pilot, a policeman, an astronaut, and more!

PRE-KG Literacy: Consonant Blends

PRE-KG Science: “Float or Sink?” Pre-KG students gathered around a pool of water for a fun, practical lesson outdoors on objects that float and objects that sink. From cotton wool to rocks, to buttons to wooden toys, they all had a go at taking a guess and testing and throwing. Which objects float? Watch this video for an exciting and engaging lesson with both Pre-KG classes.

Special Activities

11th Grade IP – Trip to Jesus Kids & MAYEIN

11th Grade students and some Wellspring Residents took a trip to Jesus Kids and MAYEIN Youth Center. The 11th Graders had raised funds as part of their Independent Project (IP) and donated in kind to both organizations. This project helped trigger students awareness of the needs in their surrounding community. 11th Grade now plans to initiate a “Book Drive” and support the less privileged in the surrounding neighborhood.

MAYEIN Youth Center

We are grateful to Mrs. Adamolekun of Jesus Kids, Mrs. Ossai the founder of MAIYEN, and all staff for their dedicated service to the community, and we would also like to thank them for the opportunity to visit their organization.

 

IGCSE Art – Excursion to Landmark & Oniru Beaches

10th Grade IGCSE Art students took a trip to Landmark and Oniru beaches in Lagos last Saturday, to explore the coastal environment depicting beach-related still-life scenes.

 

9TH GRADE MARKETING PROJECT

9th Grade students completed their week-long marketing project, and it was a huge success! Thank you parents, students and staff who supported them. The students were able to put to practice different concepts relating to business, sales and marketing. A job well done to Team Sixth Sense and Team A-Cubed!

 

SENIOR ASSEMBLY (led by Perfect Conduct Students)

This week’s Senior Assembly was led by students who got Perfect Conduct on their first semester report card.

SPORTS DAZE

We’ve wrapped up Sports Daze activities all across school! Congo, Niger, Volta and Zambezi all displayed phenomenal performances. Every child was a winner! Zambezi won gold for march past, while Niger won the athletic events. Congo and Volta tied second, and Zambezi came in third. For our Preschool Sports Daze, each child was indeed a winner and went home with a gold medal. Volta (Preschool) won the march past.

INVITATIONAL RELAY (ACA @ Lead City International School)

After a very successful Sports Daze, ACA was invited to Lead City International School to compete in their inter-school relays. We went in with some of our best athletes and all were fighters! Elementary (middle) school boys won 1st place, while the girls came in 2nd! Senior school boys and girls came in 3rd. This was our first invited schools relay this academic year and we look forward to attending some more.

PTA: First Meeting of the Year!

Special Activities

100 DAYS OF SCHOOL

“Happy 100 Days of School!” We had been counting down since the beginning of the school year and were excited to celebrate with our younger students dressed up as Centenarians for the day, while completing artwork and activities in 100’s!

We celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday in preschool and junior school dressed up as characters from his books!

Dr. Seuss Day, also known as National Read Across America Day, celebrates the joy of learning and the importance of early literacy. At ACA, we have an extensive literacy program that encourages children even as early as creche to interact with books. We follow through with fun games, innovative teaching methods and focused one-on-one learning in literacy classes through pre- and junior school, and continue to monitor and encourage the growth of our older students through advanced reading/literature, writing, research, and oral presentations.

 

ST. PATRICK’S DAY

“Happy St. Patrick’s Day!” Our KG class celebrated dressed in green.

PRESCHOOL

Nursery students learned about patterns while completing artwork, as Pre-KG students enjoyed Leroy’s cat for Show & Tell. Pre-Nursery kids stepped outdoors for a Science lesson on birds.

ELEMENTARY

In Social studies, 4th Graders continued their series of lessons and presentations on Nigerian culture, while 2nd Graders had a lesson on greeting the Yoruba way. 1st Grade students presented their Science project on seasons and learned how to make machines work easier, as 3rd Graders had practical lessons on Electromagnetism and rock formation. Our Science lessons continued with an experiment on thermal energy in 4th Grade.

SENIOR

IGCSE and A-level mock exams are ongoing in Senior School! Our A-level students completed their Chemistry Practical exam.

Our 12th Grade SBG (Student Body Government) put on a Secret Valentine event this week, and the love was felt through their homemade cookies, wrapped treats, and heartwarming messages.

Sports Daze

  1. Adamasingba Stadium, 9:00 am Friday, February 25th.

  2. Children should arrive at the stadium at 8:30 am.

  3. Parents are encouraged to dress in their children’s house colors.

  4. There will be no school for Preschool on Friday.  Children may stay home or come accompanied with parents.

  5. Bottles of water will be shared with all parents, students, staff. 

  6. Parents should also send along extra water and snacks.

  7. Freshly baked snacks and drinks will be available for sale.

GENERAL ANNOUNCMENTS

ACT Exam - Saturday, Feb. 12 (Online Room)

Valentine’s Day - all students wear pink, white or red. However, Elementary school students who are performing should come to school in their costumes.

Preschool: Valentine’s Parade to hold Tuesday, Feb 15th by 12 noon prompt in JC hall. Parents are invited to attend.

Elementary: Costume day & talent show to hold Monday, Feb. 14th from 11 am-1 pm (this event is for students only).

Senior: Valentine’s Day Dance is on Saturday, Feb 19th, from 5:00-7:00 pm with tickets costing N3,000. Tickets must be purchased by Thursday, Feb 17th. See an SBG member for details and payment.

Reports: All Semester I report cards will be going out Tuesday, Feb 15th. Preschool parents will receive hard copies while parents of 1st-12th grade students will receive electronic copies. Mock report cards for 10th grade will also be emailed on the same day. 

Awards assembly: 4th - 12th Grade Academic Awards will be given to students on Tuesday.

ACA Instrumental & Vocal Performance Club AUDITIONS!!!

To be held Monday, January 31st for students interested in joining the Instrumental Performance Club.

And Wednesday, February 2nd for students interested in joining the Vocal Performance Club.

These free clubs kick off next semester. Students are expected to be proficient in their instrument, so practice up and get ready for your audition!

1st day schedules for Semester II (all schools) and Semester II (Senior School) will be sent out on the last day of the semester, Wednesday, February 2nd.

The PTA Meeting has been scheduled for Friday Feb. 18th, 5pm in JC Hall.

Senior Trip Fundraisers

12th grade students are raising money for their Senior Trip and will be selling water and juice for N200 on the Sports field every Wednesday during practice.

Also, Senior students who want an extra day of wearing Mufti may pay N500 to 12th grade students to wear Mufti the last Friday of each month while Junior and Middle students may wear Mufti on the first Wednesday of each month for the sum of N300 to be donated towards the 12th grade senior trip.

●       Sports Daze - Due to our upcoming Sports Daze on March 4th, we require all Preschoolers to be in school by 8:00 am every Friday. We will be having an all-preschool march past practice between 8:10-8:30 am. Thank you for your support.

A quick throwback to last year!

ACA’s Elementary, Middle, and Senior students went Christmas caroling at the Ibadan Motherless Babies home as well as the School for the Deaf. They even used sign-language to communicate the lyrics to the children!

Thanks to all those who donated gifts and much-needed food stuffs for the children. Your generosity is highly appreciated!

Moreover, preschoolers received a surprise visit from ole' Saint Nick and his jolly elves! And Mrs. Oshodi led our preschool children in singing Christmas carols! This Christmas was all about the JOY of giving & it was truly rewarding to see the smiles on everyone’s faces!

          • Due to sports practice on Fridays, students will be permitted to wear Mufti on Mondays, instead.

    • Sports Daze will take place February 25th, at the University of Ibadan stadium.

  • Preschool 

    • Children practice on ACA grounds.

    • Preschool Sports Daze will hold on March 4th

    • Parents should please return the house color caps given out during the 30th anniversary.  Children will wear the caps for Sports Daze and take them home afterwards. New students will be issued caps.

  • Preschool Valentine’s Day: Costume Parade, Monday, February 14 (details to be announced)

COVID Protocols

  • Please review the mail sent out at the beginning of January with expectations for parents and also school protocols.

  • ACA will be more strict with mask adherence both with students and staff due to a recent resurgence.


New Staff

  • Michael Alabi - additional Chemistry teacher joining ACA February 10. 

  • Nurse Joy will be away from Wednesday, January 19, to take her Masters degree exams in India.  Nurse Olamide has been working with Ms. Joy this week  and will be serving as an interim nurse in Ms. Joy’s absence.
